Committed to developing resources and providing support services to individuals with disabilities that foster responsibility and independence, and empower them to make informed decisions regarding where, how, and with whom they live.
The Community Living Program is a large vendor of housing support services for people with developmental, physical, mental health, sensory and/or multiple disabilities in Sarasota County. It offers participants the opportunity to have a choice and a voice with regard to their living arrangements and helps to fulfill long term goals when residents are able to share a small, single family home with roommates that lead to an increased quality of life and the most independent lives. The program is committed to securing cost-effective housing solutions and family-like living arrangements for one of our most disenfranchised groups including those who are elderly; providing them with safe, affordable and accessible homes within our communities.
Two components enable participants to have options and a choice with regard to where and with whom they live.
The Off-Campus component offers small, single family living arrangements for participants in homes or apartments located throughout Sarasota County. Generally, the residents are employed by local companies and stability in their living arrangements enables them to remain self-sufficient, employed and productive tax-payers and active in the community.
The On-Campus component offers adults with the most significant developmental and/or multiple disabilities to live in small, single family homes that they share with up to eight residents that are located on the CHAC campus. This type of arrangement actually fosters increased independence for residents who are able to access work, recreational and social pursuits on the 32-acre campus unassisted. These residents are generally employed through the Occupational Training program. CHAC Transportation Services enables them to participate in community events and activities as the majority are unable to access public transportation on their own.
